Academies National Conference (Neil Stewart Associates)

In one of the first acts of the new coalition government the Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove wrote to all head teachers of schools graded "outstanding" by Ofsted, letting them know that they would be automatically approved and inviting them to consider acquiring academy status from September 2010.
		
Over 1,700 schools have indicated an interest in acquiring academy status. Questions remain about funding, human resources and how admissions will work in practice.
